Jo Archer

Hatha Yoga Instructor

Hello,

I completed a Yoga Alliance teaching qualification in 2012 with Svastha Yoga, who follow the teachings of Krishnamacharya. I have been teaching on and off since then and I am now training with the British Wheel of Yoga; due to qualify in July 2018.

I tend to teach hatha yoga with a lot of emphasis on breathing and some flowing sequences.

Julie Baker
Iyengar Yoga Instructor

Hello!!! My name is Julie and I live and work in Birmingham as an Iyengar Yoga teacher and community artist.

My obsession with the body and the shapes it can make has been a passion all my life. In my younger years I spent most of my time dancing. From tap dancing on the lino in the kitchen (much to my mom’s despair!) to attending classes I just couldn't seem to get enough.

I got drawn towards yoga on my first visit to India in 2000. It was the start of my epic journey halfway around the world. India itself blew my mind. Sights, sounds, tastes, smells, everything was new and exciting and I never imagined at the time that I would be back to visit it again and again.

After my yoga discovery I tried out many different styles, but soon got drawn into the world of Iyengar. The attention to detail and variety of sequences suited my analytical mind and continues to hold my interest. There will always be something new to learn in what might seem the simplest of asana’s (postures).

After 2 years of training, here in my home town of Birmingham, in November 2008, I was very proud to become an Introductory Iyengar Yoga teacher. Throughout the training process I discovered that my interests lay in therapeutic work – how I can use my yoga practice to fix or to heal. My thirst for knowledge in this subject continues on and I hope to be able to further my studies so that I can use this in my teachings as well as my own practice.

How I can help you?
My aim is to meet you where ever you are in your life right now and to help you make the changes you want to make. This can happen much more quickly and easily than you might think!

I am experienced in working with people who suffer from complex emotional difficulties as well as from "unexplained" physical pains and complaints.

For example:
Emotional Issues
such as depression, post natal depression, anger, anxiety and panic attacks, bereavement, stress, trauma, self harm, low self esteem, relationship problems, sexual-emotional-and domestic abuse, phobias.

Physical Issues
such as pain relief, Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS), back problems, infertility, sleep problems, psychosomatic symptoms, weight management, stopping smoking.

After an initial assessment we will decide as to whether short term work or medium to long term psychotherapy would be most beneficial for you. I will offer you a variety of therapeutic techniques throughout every consultation so that you can communicate and express yourself in many more ways than just talking. These techniques include mind-body techniques as well as some that are used in art therapy.

Pregnancy and Birth
To feel worried and fearful about some aspects of pregnancy and birth is very common and it is vital to address and resolve these issues in order to have a positive birth experience. Using art as an expressive, therapeutic media as well as relaxation exercises and some aspects of Hypnobirthing are a fantastic preparation for a relaxed and positive birth. It greatly helps to keep pain under control, it furthers early bonding with the baby and helps prevent postnatal depression. I offer this work as individual sessions as well as in form of workshops for a group of mums to be. For more information visit www.birthartcafe.co.uk

I have been practicing holistic therapies for the last 22 years. I trained at South Birmingham College, and subsequently at Bournville College of Further Education, Birmingham learning a wide range of complementary therapies, such as Swedish body massage, reflexology, Indian head massage and aromatherapy.

I now practice predominantly sports/remedial massage and Indian head massage. In 1999 I was invited to work out in the United States, Denver, Colorado where I was lucky enough to be introduced to a chiropractor. Whilst being there I learnt a lot of applications and began to understand many patient conditions such as whiplash, back conditions, stress in the body. This made me want to help people even more, so in 2001 I decided to take a course in remedial sports massage.

I have worked through many celebrity charity events offering my services to raise money for disabled children, including live aid London 2005, Party in the Park, Cannon Hill. I have offered my services to the Alexandra, Birmingham Repertory and Hippodrome theatres doing massage for dancers and performers. For 8 months in 2008 I worked in southern Spain.

Vicky Carter
Holistic Massage Therapist, Reiki Practitioner/Tutor

A trained counsellor and Reiki Master, I qualified as a professional Holistic
Massage Therapist in 2006. I am a registered Professional Massage Practitioner with the Massage Training Institue and a fully insured member of the General Council for Massage Therapy (GCMT).

I offer a range of holistic therapies including holistic body massage, on-site chair massage, Indian head massage and Reiki. I am also a Reiki teacher. I have always had a keen interest in people and the dynamics we form within our relationships, often at a subtle level.

I noticed at an early age what an impact people have on us. I learned what a difference a person could make if they were sensitive and interested in listening and sharing time during difficult times in my early life.

I guess this awareness and other life experiences led me to begin my formal training as a Counsellor in 1998. At the time this was partly for personal development and for me to determine if I would like to offer Counselling as a support service to others. My passion was fuelled and I now work part time as a Youth Counsellor within a Birmingham based school.

It is always a privilege for me to be a part of a person’s unique journey and to witness a person’s personal growth with any medium of communication.

I also have a keen interest in Metaphysics and the subtle vibrations of Universal Energy.

Reiki came into my life in 2003, and this has been another invaluable aspect of my personal development, which is always evolving! I ofer treatments and work as a Reiki Master/Teacher, facilitating regular Reiki training workshops.

My belief and enthusiasm influences my continual exploration and study of Holistic Therapy. I dedicate much of my time developing my knowledge about our body and the amazing capacity it has to inform us of what we need to know. I am also fascinated by the connection between body, mind and our emotions. I am continually developing my knowledge and as each of us is a unique individual - this could allow for a life time's work and more!

My passion about people and the pleasure of being present with someone in this peaceful and respectful means of communication is reflected in my work.

You can visit my website www.equanimity.uk.com or please feel free to contact me on my mobile 07738 930211 or via email info@equanimity.uk.com.

I am a qualified counsellor with a diploma in Counselling and a BSc (Hons) in Human Psychology. I am also a qualified teacher (PGCE in Lifelong learning sector).

I am accredited by The British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy and a member of The British Psychological Society.

My  experience involves counselling across a variety of situations. I have worked at an organisation providing counselling for people with drug and alcohol problems, and within a sheltered housing scheme providing counselling for employees.

Currently, I provide counselling at a GP practice and also provide counselling in two schools.

In my private practice I work with clients who are experiencing difficulties relating to a range of issues and emotions, for example anxiety, depression, anger, relationships, work, self-esteem.

My training is in the Gestalt approach. Gestalt is a term which refers to the concept  of ‘wholeness’. In terms of counselling this means that I believe that the whole of your experience is important. Your thoughts, feelings, emotions, behaviours, sensations are the unique ‘you’.

I can offer you a safe place to explore your feelings and thoughts, providing a time and a space for you to work on issues which are  important to you. In our first session we can explore what it is you would like from counselling and it gives us a chance to discuss how we can best work together should you decide that you want to continue.
