Dr Lisa Ahmad BSc (Hons), Clin.Psy.D.
Chartered Clinical Psychologist
I have experience of assessing a wide range of mental health problems and am skilled in managing emotive and difficult situations. I work with adults, children and young people who are struggling to cope with a variety of complex emotional
difficulties. I have worked with individuals with complex mental health needs within the NHS and my own private practice. Such difficulties include anxiety, depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, obsessive compulsive disorder, attachment difficulties, violence and abuse, autistic spectrum disorder, and issues associated with loss and anger.
I also specialise in working with people who have very complex problems including eating disorders, deliberate self-harm, suicidal thoughts and personality disorders. Many of the people I work with and treat have had histories of difficult early life experiences, including sexual, physical and emotional abuse, and or neglect. I have also worked successfully with people who have experienced a wide range of traumatic experiences including bullying and harassment, domestic violence, and one off traumatic incidences such as accidents, operations and physical health difficulties.
I have also worked extensively with children at risk, in need and in Looked After Provision and adults who have been involved in the Criminal Justice System.
As a Chartered Clinical Psychologist, I am trained to use a variety of treatment approaches and draw upon various aspects of a number of therapies as appropriate, since the person's needs tend to change through the course of therapy. I often use Rational Emotive Behaviour Therapy (REBT) or Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) as I have found these to provide good results in the past.
I will make decisions regarding treatment choices with you. Following assessment we will discuss what I think might be useful and what your preferences are. Treatment will then be led by my expertise in what works, and your preferences.
Assessment will usually take 1.5 hours, subsequent sessions typically last one hour. EMDR sessions are usually undertaken in either 1 or 1.5 hour sessions. EMDR generally generates quicker results than pure talking therapy and therefore takes fewer sessions to produce the desired outcome.
Qualifications
Lisa qualified as a Clinical Psychologist in 2006. She is a chartered Member of the British Psychological Society and is registered with the Health Professions Council. She has since become an Advanced Practitioner in Rational Emotive Therapy (REBT and an Accredited Practitioner of Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR).

Philip Bedford IIHHT Dip
Sports/Remedial Masseur
I have been practicing holistic therapies since 1995. From 1995-2000 I trained at South Birmingham College, and subsequently at Bournville College of Further Education, Birmingham learning a wide range of complementary therapies, such as Swedish body massage, reflexology, Indian head massage and aromatherapy.
I now practice predominantly sports/remedial massage and Indian head massage.
After I completed all my courses I began working at the Birmingham University, Munrow sports centre, applying my techniques to athletes, staff and the general public. In 1999 I was invited to work out in the United States, Denver, Colorado where I was lucky enough to be introduced to a chiropractor. Whilst being there I learnt a lot of applications and began to understand many patient conditions such as whiplash, back conditions, stress in the body. This made me want to help people even more, so in 2001 I decided to take a course in remedial sports massage.
I have worked through many celebrity charity events offering my services to raise money for disabled children, including live aid London 2005, Party in the Park, Cannon Hill. I have offered my services to the Alexandra, Birmingham Repertory and Hippodrome theatres doing massage for dancers and performers. For 8 months in 2008 I worked in southern Spain.
My aim is to offer you my utmost as a sports therapist using my years of knowledge and experience to heal a wide range of conditions. Sports massage is not only for the pro athlete but also for anyone who is serious about keeping in shape and keeping continual stress and injury at bay.

Brenda Bentley DipCHyp, HPD, MNCH, PNLP, EFT Practitioner
Cognitive Hypnotherapist
Brenda is a comprehensively insured member of the National Council for Hypnotherapy (www.hypnotherapists.org) and NLP Practitioner. Her training conforms with the National Occupational Standards for Hypnotherapy -- the highest standards for practice in the UK.
Cognitive Hypnotherapists work from an understanding of the mind-body connection that is based on modern neuroscience. The approach follows the principle that our thoughts affect our feelings, which directly affects our behaviour. It blends together leading-edge techniques such as cognitive behaviour therapy, emotional freedom technique (EFT), positive psychology and neurolinguistic programming (NLP).
Modern neuroscience shows that the unconscious controls 90 per cent of our behaviour, so if you have emotions or behaviours that don't respond to your conscious efforts to change or control them, "updating" your unconscious could help. Brenda can guide you to build unconscious patterns of mind that can get you more of what you want, whether that's confidence, better communication, pain control or, more generally, to be able to improve your relationships or achieve your goals.
Her approach honours you as a client in a supportive, caring and professional environment to explore your concern and let go of whatever it is that is holding you back from being who you really are.Sessions with Brenda offer you more than just therapy -- you learn how your mind works, how you are creating your experience of life and what you need to create the life you want to have.
She specialises in Confidence Building, Weight Management, Phobias, Anxiety / Panic Disorders and Confident Childbirthing

Vicky Carter
Holistic Massage Therapist, Reiki Practitioner/Tutor
A trained counsellor and Reiki Master, I qualified as a professional Holistic
Massage Therapist in 2006. I am a registered Professional Massage Practitioner with the Massage Training Institue and a fully insured member of the General Council for Massage Therapy (GCMT).
I offer a range of holistic therapies including holistic body massage, on-site chair massage, Indian head massage and Reiki. I am also a Reiki teacher. I have always had a keen interest in people and the dynamics we form within our relationships, often at a subtle level.
I noticed at an early age what an impact people have on us. I learned what a difference a person could make if they were sensitive and interested in listening and sharing time during difficult times in my early life.
I guess this awareness and other life experiences led me to begin my formal training as a Counsellor in 1998. At the time this was partly for personal development and for me to determine if I would like to offer Counselling as a support service to others. My passion was fuelled and I now work part time as a Youth Counsellor within a Birmingham based school.
It is always a privilege for me to be a part of a person’s unique journey and to witness a person’s personal growth with any medium of communication.
I also have a keen interest in Metaphysics and the subtle vibrations of Universal Energy.
Reiki came into my life in 2003, and this has been another invaluable aspect of my personal development, which is always evolving! I ofer treatments and work as a Reiki Master/Teacher, facilitating regular Reiki training workshops.
My belief and enthusiasm influences my continual exploration and study of Holistic Therapy. I dedicate much of my time developing my knowledge about our body and the amazing capacity it has to inform us of what we need to know. I am also fascinated by the connection between body, mind and our emotions. I am continually developing my knowledge and as each of us is a unique individual - this could allow for a life time's work and more!
My passion about people and the pleasure of being present with someone in this peaceful and respectful means of communication is reflected in my work.

Rachel Lake, Dip A.E.T.
Allergy Therapist, N.A.E.T Practitioner and Nutritional Adviser
I am trained with Noma (Complex Homeopathy) Ltd in detecting sensitivities to allergens with a Vega machine and I have been trained with the British Institute for allergy and Environmental Therapy to detect allergens with applied kinesiology.
These test methods will help to identify food intolerance, environmental allergy, heavy metal sensitivity, geopathic stress and vitamin and mineral deficiencies.
Both test methods work on the same principal, by detecting an interruption in the flow of energy within the body when a sample of a substance which is causing the client to have symptoms comes into their energy field and interrupts the flow of energy. See 'Therapies Explained' webpage for further information about the testing methods.
My consultations will help you to identify foods and environmental substances that are causing you unnecessary symptoms. I aim to advise you on balancing your nutritional requirements with your lifestyle and offer you a homeopathic desensitisation programme for any allergies or intolerances you may have or advise you on alternative foods to the ones you are currently eating to help you enjoy the benefits of improved health.
I am a member of The British Institute for Allergy and Environmental Therapy with whom I completed a diploma, The National Society for Research into Allergy, who keep me up to date with new research on the subject, The British Society of Dowsers as I have a keen interest in earth energies such as electromagnetic stress, geopathic stress, and earth energy lines in the contribution to ill health and The British Complementary Medical Association.

Jennie Lees Reiki Practitioner SNHS Dip. (Crystal Healing)
After receiving Reiki treatments and treating herself whilst pregnant, during labour and treating her son following his birth, Jennie made the decision to focus her Reiki practice by specialising in Reiki for pregnancy, childbirth, new moms and babies.
Jennie is passionate about helping women to have a less stressful, more relaxed pregnancy; using Reiki to provide them with the emotional and physical support that they may need at such a life changing time. Jennie tailors her treatments to the individual depending on their circumstances and also uses Bach Flower Remedies and Crystal Healing in her treatments.
What is Reiki?
The word Reiki is Japanese and means universal life force energy. Reiki is a non-religious, non- invasive method of healing which works on every level physical, emotional, the energy field and is activated by intention. I.e. the practitioner focuses their thoughts and energy on the intention to help the client. Reiki soothes and relaxes, balances the energy fields and supports the body’s natural ability to heal itself. During a treatment the Reiki practitioner places her hands on or above the client's fully clothed body and directs healing, focussing on seven different chakras or energy centres of the body located at; the crown chakra (head), the third eye chakra (forehead), the throat, the heart, the solar plexus, the sacral chakra (mid abdomen) and the root chakra (base of abdomen).
Benefits
Reiki encourages relaxation and brings balance on every level. It promotes a calmer response to life’s challenges and works effectively alongside orthodox healthcare and natural remedies. Reiki helps relieve pain and aids sleep.
Reiki can be beneficial in:
- Working with fertility
- Preparing for natural birth
- Reducing stress
- Reducing or eliminating pain
- Recovery from traumatic birth
Jennie is fully insured to practice Reiki and Crystal Healing.

Psychotherapist, Counsellor/Coach
Relationship difficulties, work challenges, depression or anxiety getting in the way of satisfaction and fulfillment? Ready to take charge of your life and make it work for you?
I’ve been working with motivated individuals and couples to make their lives better for the past fifteen years. I’m credentialled as a Psychotherapist / Counsellor and Coach (being a member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy) and I’m a good choice as your guide if you believe in a holistic approach to changing and healing.

The process is rewarding and fun enough that once you get started you’ll want to continue. I know change is possible for you because change - profound change - has been possible for me. Frances Tagg BSc., RGN, Dip Couns.
Counsellor
We all have some sense of who we are, but there are times when we feel lost, confused, angry, distressed - not fully ourselves.

Psychosynthesis counselling offers an approach which fosters wholeness and the potential for growth in the face of loss, despair or crisis. I offer a supportive, confidential and non-judgemental space in which, together, we can pay attention to whatever is troubling you while also listening to the voice of Self wishing to be heard. In this way I believe that challenges may become opportunities for new choices, change and growth.

Ian Tromp
Counsellor
I am an Accredited member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (MBACP Accred.), the professional and regulatory body for counsellors. As a member, I adhere to the BACP’s ethical framework for good practice. I am a UKRCP Registered Independent Counsellor/Psychotherapist.
I hold a Diploma in Integrative Psychosynthesis Counselling from Re•Vision, in London. This course is accredited by the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and the UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP).

I believe we all have a need to tell our stories, and that being heard is, in itself, healing. Counselling and therapy work through the meeting of counsellor and client, and the time we spend together, paying careful attention to what you have experienced. Although we might, in a session, explore your dreams, or work with active imagination, or talk about addictions or habits you’re trying to break, or new, positive ways of being you’re wanting to cultivate, I believe that our meeting, your feeling yourself heard and attended to, is what really makes the difference.
I was born and grew up in South Africa, and moved to England in the mid-1990s. I trained initially as an art historian, and still have a passion for art. I taught art history at the University of South Africa for a couple of years, and then worked as a teacher trainer.
After relocating to England, I worked in various charities, first in Cambridge, and then in Birmingham. I also work as a freelance writer, contributing essays and articles to a number of publications here and in the USA. I began meditating in 1989, and my involvement with Buddhism is what brought me to England. In 2000 I was ordained and given the Buddhist name Manjusura, by which some people know me. This means something like ‘Gentle Hero.’ My experience of Buddhist meditation and other practices infuses my approach to counselling, though I rarely explicitly discuss such practices. Please do visit my website, where you will find much more information about my approach to counselling and therapy: www.anukampa.net
Anantacitta Tunnell
Meditation Instructor
Anantacitta has been a Buddhist since 1992 and was ordained in 2002. He trained in a Western Buddhist tradition.
He is now a non-affiliated Buddhist and freelance meditation instructor. He is married, lives in Bearwood and works as a Social Worker.
Buddhist Meditation is used to calm the body and mind, ultimately in order to investigate your inner process, gaining insight into the deep discontent we feel. This discontentment the Buddha said was due to our tendency to push away unpleasant experiences and grab onto pleasant experiences. This swinging between these two extremes of pushing away and grasping is what leads to our fundamental discontent because this can never actually achieve. Instead through meditation we can really see what is happening in ourselves, we can embrace this discontent and work with the causes, and through this meditation process the discontent will eventually begin to diminish.
Regular meditation practice can result in a feeling of contentment, happiness, better relationships with others and increased self confidence.

Then he got sick, couldn't get well, and found himself (reluctantly) at the door of an acupuncturist in Birmingham. What followed left some impression on him - enough to make him want to study and practise this curious therapy!
Merlin first studied acupuncture at the College of Tradional Acupuncture at Leamington Spa in Warwickshire. The licentiate qualification obtained there is accredited by the British Acupuncture Accreditation Assessment Board, the body which regulates training in traditional acupuncture in the UK. Since then, he has extensively investigated acupuncture, and particularly the way it is practised in Japan.
After seeing how quickly and easily people improve with the gentle Japanese techniques, today his treatments are primarily planned using principles of this style of treatment. He continues to study and develop these methods. Since 1998, he has studied regularly, both in the UK and Holland, under Stephen Birch, one of the most articulate exponents of acupuncture in the West, who is also a recognised authority on Japanese methods. This training has enabled him to become a member of the Toyohari Association, and he has travelled to Japan and studied with some extraordinarily gifted blind acupuncturists.
Both inside and outside of the treatment room, the care, comfort and well-being of his patients is paramount . Merlin only uses the finest quality and thinnest pre-sterilised and disposable stainless-steel, silver or gold needles. He abides by the codes of ethics and practice laid down by the British Acupuncture Council, of which he is a member, and through which he is fully insured.
His hope is that each of his patients encounters in him a practitioner who is capable of understanding their pain or discomfort as well as being able to help their condition. In this process, his intention is also to create a space in which humour and humanity can be shared. Experience teaches him that we can thus often discover we are no longer so defined and restrained by our complaints (as it so often feels), but that we can be liberated by them.
