What is Homeopathy?

Homeopathy is a holistic therapeutic system based on the principle that ‘like treats like’ meaning a substance which causes symptoms when taken in larger doses can be used in smaller amounts to treat similar symptoms. Specifically prepared remedies given mainly in tablet or liquid form are tailored in a homeopathic prescription to each individual patient according to your specific symptoms.

An holistic approach

A homeopathy consultation is based upon looking at a person as whole. It considers an overview of all your symptoms together, whether mental, emotional or physical and addresses these in a single prescription. In a confidential in depth initial consultation, I will review all aspects of your health and well-being including past medical history, diet, lifestyle and personality type as well as current health problems, I take all this information into account. Follow-up appointments generally review any changes and progress in between appointments.

Is homeopathy safe?

Homeopathic remedies are non-toxic as only minute amounts of the original ingredients are used in the homeopathic prescription, they are generally considered safe to be used in cases involving babies’ and children, in pregnancy and for breastfeeding mothers.

Length of treatment depends upon the individual health symptoms and for how long you have experienced these symptoms. A long-standing condition may require a course of treatment generally once a month for three months will begin to show if treatment is helpful. I can then discuss with you how often your progress can be reviewed and generally at the longer intervals as the condition improves. Acute conditions can resolve more quickly.

A health condition service evaluation at the Bristol Homeopathic Hospital recorded treatment in over 6,500 patients during a six-year period the survey found 70% of patients reported an improvement in their health. I like to use a simple patient reported outcome measure called a MYMOP to assess any changes and improvement in your condition over time.
