Julie Baker
Iyengar Yoga Instructor

Hello!!! My name is Julie and I live and work in Birmingham as an Iyengar Yoga teacher and community artist.

My obsession with the body and the shapes it can make has been a passion all my life. In my younger years I spent most of my time dancing. From tap dancing on the lino in the kitchen (much to my mom’s despair!) to attending classes I just couldn't seem to get enough.

I got drawn towards yoga on my first visit to India in 2000. It was the start of my epic journey halfway around the world. India itself blew my mind. Sights, sounds, tastes, smells, everything was new and exciting and I never imagined at the time that I would be back to visit it again and again.

After my yoga discovery I tried out many different styles, but soon got drawn into the world of Iyengar. The attention to detail and variety of sequences suited my analytical mind and continues to hold my interest. There will always be something new to learn in what might seem the simplest of asana’s (postures).

After 2 years of training, here in my home town of Birmingham, in November 2008, I was very proud to become an Introductory Iyengar Yoga teacher. Throughout the training process I discovered that my interests lay in therapeutic work – how I can use my yoga practice to fix or to heal. My thirst for knowledge in this subject continues on and I hope to be able to further my studies so that I can use this in my teachings as well as my own practice.

Philip Bedford IIHHT Dip

Sports/Remedial Masseur

I have been practicing holistic therapies for the last 22 years. I trained at South Birmingham College, and subsequently at Bournville College of Further Education, Birmingham learning a wide range of complementary therapies, such as Swedish body massage, reflexology, Indian head massage and aromatherapy.

I now practice predominantly sports/remedial massage and Indian head massage. After I completed all my courses I began working at the Birmingham University, Munrow sports centre, applying my techniques to athletes, staff and the general public. In 1999 I was invited to work out in the United States, Denver, Colorado where I was lucky enough to be introduced to a chiropractor. Whilst being there I learnt a lot of applications and began to understand many patient conditions such as whiplash, back conditions, stress in the body. This made me want to help people even more, so in 2001 I decided to take a course in remedial sports massage.

I have worked through many celebrity charity events offering my services to raise money for disabled children, including live aid London 2005, Party in the Park, Cannon Hill. I have offered my services to the Alexandra, Birmingham Repertory and Hippodrome theatres doing massage for dancers and performers. For 8 months in 2008 I worked in southern Spain.

My aim is to offer you my utmost as a sports therapist using my years of knowledge and experience to heal a wide range of conditions. Sports massage is not only for the pro athlete but also for anyone who is serious about keeping in shape and keeping continual stress and injury at bay.

Vicky Carter

Holistic Therapist and Reiki Master.

I offer a range of Massage Therapy, Reiki Healing, Counselling and Life Coaching. I also facilitate regular Reiki Training Workshops.

I am an experienced and ever evolving therapist who remains fascinated by the connection between our body, mind and emotions. I am as passionate about people as I am towards life. I have always had a keen interest in the dynamics we form within relationships, both consciously and unconsciously. Awareness of the impact people have on us came at a very early stage in my life which led me to dedicate my professional training to enhance as many lives as possible.

I began my formal training in Person-Centred Counselling in 1998 and have worked through various professional qualifications in different Counselling approaches, to include Solution Focused Counselling, Grief Therapy, Play Therapy (children) therefore I work with an Integrative Approach to Counselling.

I have comprehensive training in different approaches to massage therapy and how best to support your body to release pain and avoid dysfunction. The therapeutic massage I provide can de-stress you and bring about a deep relaxation to re-energise you overall. My professional experience includes working with patients with complex needs in a Forensic Mental Health Hospital, working as a youth counsellor in schools and supporting patients through palliative care in a hospice alongside my private practice which I developed in 2003.

For the past 25 years, I have always and continue to work actively on my personal development. I never take for granted the issues which can arise for each of us throughout life or as we go for treatments. Reiki has been another invaluable aspect of my personal development. I am fascinated by metaphysics and convinced by the subtle yet powerful vibrations of Universal Energy.

I have a warm and gentle disposition which I believe helps me to intuitively sense where there may be issues in your body and I am skilled at releasing tension and pain as I palpate the tissues of your muscles during massage therapy. My primary interest is that you feel comfortable, safe and respected as you receive your treatment. Everything will be made as clear as possible to you from our first point of contact and I always maintain a genuinely respectful position during talking therapies.

It is always a privilege for me to be a part of a person’s unique journey and witness an individual’s personal development.

All treatments may be adapted to different levels of mobility and gift vouchers are available to purchase as gifts for others or for loved ones to purchase for you.

Karin Graber, M.Sc. (Psychology), MAS (Psychotherapy)

Psychologist and Counsellor/Psychotherapist

Hi! I am a warm and enthusiastic Psychologist and Psychotherapist in my thirties, originally from Switzerland, but now living in Birmingham with my husband and two children.

Since 2006, I have worked in the area of psychology, mental health and counselling/psychotherapy. After my studies in Psychology (focusing on Clinical Psychology/Neuropsychology), I trained for 4 years in an integrative therapy model. This means that I will use different approaches (for example a schema-based approach, CBT or emotion-focused therapy) depending on your situation, your therapy goals and you preferences.

Issues I work with include depression, anxiety, stress-related problems, post-traumatic stress, personality disorders, anxiety and phobias, obsessive compulsive disorder, sleeping problems, eating disorders, relationship problems and many more.

I am a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) , fully adhering to its ethical framework, I am committed to regular supervision and CPD, and am fully professionally insured.

I offer therapy sessions in English or German.

In an initial session, I would first want to get to know you, the reasons that you sought therapy, your current life situation, and the kinds of things that are important to you. Of course, this also gives you an opportunity so get an idea of who I am, and if you could imagine embarking on this therapeutic journey together; and we would take your therapy goals to guide the process of this journey.

Prices: Initial session £25, regular session (60min) £50

Ewa Kubiak

Iyengar Yoga Instructor

I have finished Master degree in physical education and I am qualified Junior Intermediate Iyengar yoga teacher.

I took my first steps in yoga under the most experienced Iyengar yoga teachers in Poland.

I moved to England in 2013 and I regularly attend classes at the Iyengar Yoga Institute in Birmingham, where I am taught by Jayne Orton, who is a Junior Advanced level 1 teacher, and Andrew Hall.

To deepen my own practice and knowledge about yoga I also regularly participate in workshops conducted by senior Iyengar Yoga teachers. In, December 2014, February 2016 and February 2018 I spent the whole month at Iyengar Yoga Institute in Pune in India, where the Iyengar method was established.

Yoga for me is the peace, which I have been looking for so long, a challenge and a source of great joy. When I practise yoga I feel happy and fulfilled, although it is not always easy. Yoga gives me strength, opens the mind, allows to look differently at the surrounding me people and the world, and helps me to accept difficult situations.

I think yoga has found me, even if I was strongly defending myself against it. Now I cannot imagine my life without it. I love yoga for its wonderfully relaxing effect on me, for the knowledge about my own body that I learnt through it and the opportunity to improve it. For the fact that it forces me to be here and now, and to concentrate on my own practise.

I love yoga for giving me so much, even though I expect nothing from it.
