Iyengar Yoga

Iyengar yoga is a form of Hatha yoga developed by BKS Iyengar, who lives and teaches with his family in Pune, India.

Iyengar yoga focuses on the structural alignment of the physical body through the development of asanas (postures). With a strong emphasis on precision and alignement, equipment such as belts, bricks, bolsters, chairs etc are used to enable students to deepen their practice in a safe and supported environment.

Classes differ from week to week and are carefully prepared with a particular outcome in mind. Sequences taught work towards the development of strength, stamina, flexibility and balance, as well as aiding concentration, meditation and give a general sense of well being.

Iyengar teachers are trained to guide and modify approaches to postures according to levels of mobility, fitness and individual health requirements.
